Safety compliance services
Testing and tagging is vital to maintaining a safe workspace and a key step to achieving OHS/WHS compliance. This process ensures all equipment functions safely without the danger of electrical shock or injury.
What needs testing? Any appliance that plugs into a power outlet, for example, powerboards, chargers, microwaves, computers and power tools.
We'll perform a visual inspection to check signs of damage or defects, and then plug the appliance into our Portable Appliance Tester (PAT), which performs extensive electrical tests to ensure safe and proper function. If the appliance passes it will be tagged to indicate compliance, if it fails you'll be notified and provided guidance on repairing or replacing the item.
RCDs (Residual Current Devices) are important safety devices that prevent electrical shock hazards. RCD testing includes a trip time test to measure the speed the RCD trips and ensure the results are compliant. RCD testing does involve temporary loss of power and can be scheduled at the beginning or end of the day to minimise disruptions.
Microwave leakage testing involves using a specialised device to check for radiation leaks. It's crucial for ensuring user safety and should be performed annually.
Six monthly testing and maintenance of fire protection appliances (extinguishers and blankets) is imperative.

Thermal imaging of electrical switchboards is the process of assessing electrical components within a switchboard using a thermal imager in order to determine any potential faults or abnormalities. Early detection of faults greatly reduces the risk of extensive damage and dangerous situations like fires or electrical hazards. Themal imaging is a non-invasive method performed under normal operating conditions.
Emergency lighting systems should be tested at six monthly intervals, including a thorough cleaning of all components annually. Our technicians perform a 'discharge test', which tests the functionality of the system by cutting off the power supply for 90 minutes. During this time any faults are repaired to ensure functionality. Emergency lighting is generally wired to a dedicated circuit, so no loss of power in the building should occur.

How often do I need testing and tagging?
We can outline the best approach for your needs but we reccomend:
3 months - building, construction and demolition.
6 months - factories, workshops, assembly, commercial cleaning equipment.
12 months - environment where the equipment or supply flexible cord is subject to flexing in normal use or is open to abuse or in a hostile environment (most office-type workplaces).
2 years - residential type areas (hotels, motels, hostels etc).
What happens after you tag my equipment?
EPS VIC uses a cloud-based asset compliance platform (PATorganiser) developed by Christopher Iles to manage test data in an extensive, efficient and functional manner. PATorganiser stores the important data we get from testing your equipment and will generate a comprehensive and actionable report that we provide to you.
